Notes
Port Ellen enjoys a somewhat cult status amongst whisky fans who favour a peated style. This is one of the last distillations before the distillery was mothballed in 1983, bottled by flag-bearers for the whisky industry, Gordon & Macphail. With the distillery expected to be operational again some time in 2020, these old bottlings will provide fascinating insight into how the new liquid measures up!
Distillery Note:
Nose: Peaty with some citrus notes.
Palate: Delicate ash and fruity, with balanced body.
Finish: Peat smoke with a spicy edge.

Bacon straight away, but that then fades and gives way to warm bonfire, sweet tobacco and just a note of rubber. With more time in the glass treacle, cereal and pleasant soapiness. The palate is lead by sweet fruit and honey, then peppery heat, and an oily, woodsmoke finish. A complex and evolving whisky.
