Notes
AROMA: Earthy, dusty, and slightly biscuity on the nose, this is a most curious Ardbeg, almost from an alternative universe. The sooty/tarry notes are clear but restrained, and are balanced out by some silky vanilla. Water opens up a myriad of herbal and floral notes- smoked vetiver root, aniseed, fennel, chrysanthemum and jasmine, to name but a few.
TASTE: The mouthfeel is peppery and warming, and precedes an explosion of fiery, spicy flavours – chili – flavoured chocolate, bitter sweet mocha, briar wood, birch tar, ground black pepper and smoked artichokes.
FINISH: The sooty/tarry notes build up to a crescendo of rich, smoky flavours, with an incredible, lingering aftertaste of charcoal bitter almonds and molasses.
The name, Anamorphic, is inspired by a whisky that appears to MORPH and shift between 4 worlds of flavour, Our unique “high mocha” cask treatment process leads to a multidimensional dram that morphs between 4 elements SWEET | SMOKY | HERBAL | SPICY …All seamlessly merging in a mesmerising taste experience. As enigmas wrapped up in conundrums go, this takes Ardbeg to a whole new level
WE’VE TURNED ARDBEG UPSIDE DOWN AND INSIDE OUT…
First, we remove the cask heads and score them very deeply, in order to expose more surface area of the wood.
Then, we heavily toast them in a very intense, and particularly precise infra-red process. The cask ends are incredibly thick, so they can withstand this concentrated treatment.
Next, we expose the casks to flames, aggressively charring the inside of barrels before filling them with glorious Ardbeg new make spirit and trusting them to take care of it whilst it matures…
We’ve turned Ardbeg upside down and inside out! Tempering those familiar briny overtones, ramping up hidden chocolaty sweetness and magnifying sensations of mocha, this is Ardbeg, but not as we know it.

Lemon and orange barley sweets on the nose, which opens up to give cereal notes with the addition of water. Lemon barley again, on the palate, with pleasant honeysuckle and sweetness in the finish.

Bacon straight away, but that then fades and gives way to warm bonfire, sweet tobacco and just a note of rubber. With more time in the glass treacle, cereal and pleasant soapiness. The palate is lead by sweet fruit and honey, then peppery heat, and an oily, woodsmoke finish. A complex and evolving whisky.
