Light, grassy notes up front, melon, green grapes. This is followed by warming apricot tones and some cereal, maltiness. The palate is pleasingly fresh, with bright fruit notes given weight by sweet barley sugar and an oaky finish.

Just 134 bottles from a single sherry hogshead, bottled at natural cask strength after 26 years. Beautiful stuff! Distillery notes: Gentle spices, fruitcake, ginger and a herbal finish.

The nose is polished old oats, cocoa powder and roasted nuts. A bit sweeter on the palate (especially with a touch of water) with a combination of praline, caramel and dark chocolate reminding me of a particularly classy Snickers!

Noses a wee bit younger than you’ld expect from a 10 year, but the bright, complex spirit is full of baked pears, sherry richness, touches of ginger and white pepper and a pleasingly drying puff of smoke at the close.
