UNIQUE CASK HISTORY
Smoky and distinctively nutty, this rare single malt is inspired by a fabled whisky from Ardbeg’s past. Its smoky, balanced spirit was distilled in 2013 and laid down in a Manzanilla sherry cask which had originally played its part in creating the limited edition Ardbeg Ardbog, released to mark Ardbeg Day 2013. And delighted by the salty, toffeed tastes Manzanilla sherry casks had brought to Ardbog, Dr Bill decided to fill Cask No. 0247 for a second time. More than eight years on, this exceptional single malt is ready to share. Combining notes of smoked nuts with spice and brown sugar sweetness, it gives an Ardbeg legend a unique twist.
Dr Bill’s Personal Tasting Notes:
Aroma: Dry with a gently musty note, like damp warehouse floor. A little water releases oily and nutty aromas, entwined with roasted Brazil nuts, fragrant woodsmoke and a distinctive, herbal top note.
Taste: Peppery and warming textures bring smoked cashew and pecan nuts, alongside notes of smoky toffee and brown sugar. Cinnamon and clove follow on with ripples of tar.
Finish: Long and bittersweet, layering salty, tarry peat smoke with aniseed, leather and bonfire embers.
Rating: Exceptional
