Note from the Cellar Master
Marked by honeysuckle and a hint of vanilla on the nose with an elegant foam. Plentiful in baked fruits: Mirabelle plum with a slight spice on the mid-palate that gives way to a long candied tropical-fruit and brisk mineral finish.

Winemaker's Note: Susumaniello is a very rare grape variety found only in Salento, Puglia. Meaning "little donkey" in the local dialect, the name refers to the large bunches of grapes that hang from the vines like the heavy loads carried by donkeys. All of the estate’s wines feature a quartet of little crosses on their labels – this was the original and distinctive signature of the first illiterate owner on the property deeds – in a lovely nod to their humble origins. A wine with great character: sensations of black and red berries are backed by spicy notes, hints of licorice and cocoa and notes of eucalyptus. It is a full-bodied but not heavy wine, extremely satisfying and easy to drink. Delicious now, and will age well.

Winemaker's Note:
The ‘I Frati’ Lugana is lively and scented, and continues to offer superb value. Made solely from the Turbiana variety (related to Verdicchio, it was formerly known as Trebbiano di Lugana and then Lugana), the wine has depth and zip that few wines from this area demonstrate.
This wine is a pale yellow in colour with a concentrated but fresh perfume of white flowers, peaches, spice and candied fruits. Excellent depth and balance and a crisp, saline finish. (Vintage may vary)

I might go out on a limb here and say this is my favourite rose. Elegant with notes of nectarine and cherry, and crunchy acidity. Beautifully dry and crisp with great, silky texture and brilliant herby length that begs for it to be enjoyed with food.
Winemaker's Note:
Since its founding in 2005 Pietradolce has come to own one of the largest collections of pre-phylloxera vines on the active volcano Mt Etna – which are up to 120 years old. This ancient mountain commands the winery’s devotion and respect, the energy and nuance of the volcanic soils producing truly phenomenal wines. This rose is made with grapes from Nerello Mascalese vines, grown at 700m above sea level on the Northern slopes of Mount Etna.
