Famed for producing an idiosyncratic, old-style whisky, expectations from Springbank are always high – and this bottling doesn’t disappoint. A gloriously peaty nose refracts into engine oil, camphor, barley sugar, cola cubes, lime zest and smoky wild garlic. The palate has a pleasingly thick texture, delivering an incredibly array of flavour; from boot polish and beeswax to peat bog and leather, all with lashings of austere fruit. A coastal tang echoes on the finish. One can’t help but be blown away at the sheer strength of character in this dram.
