The fourth chapter in Laphroaig’s Ian Hunter Storybook. The oldest Laphroaig released for twenty years, this malt has been aged for 34 Years in a combination of American White Oak Bourbon Barrels and first-fill European Oak Oloroso Sherry casks. Bottled at natural cask strength of 46.2%.
Distillery note: This series honours the life and times of one of the distillery’s greatest distillers, and the last of the Johnston family to own and manage the Laphroaig distillery. This chapter celebrates Ian Hunter’s establishing of our malting floors and the contribution it makes to the taste of Laphroaig.
Colour: Tawny/polished Mahogany
Nose: Smoky and rich dried fruit, with notes of leaf tobacco, Eucalyptus, fresh straw, and sweet notes of golden syrup, cinder toffee, heather honey and crushed black pepper’
Taste: Peaty and sweet, barbecued pork with sweet honey marinade together with notes of peach and orange blossom, a touch of iodine and earthy floral notes.
Finish: Ashy with wood smoke lingering.
