The third chapter in Laphroaig’s Ian Hunter Storybook. The oldest Laphroaig released for twenty years, this malt has been aged for 33 Years in refill ex-Bourbon barrels. Bottled at natural cask strength of 49.9%. Creamy liquorice notes with Laphroaig‘s characteristic peatiness shining through.
Distillery note: The third release of the Ian Hunter Series is to celebrate the legacy of the last of the Johnston family to own and manage the Laphroaig distillery, and his fight to protect the Kilbride Stream. This is a story of uncompromising guardianship and a battle between neighbours, over every distillery’s essential lifeblood, its source of water.
Nose: Pears, peaches then apricots and lots of condensed sweetness open this delicious and vintage Laphroaig up. Followed by notes of honey and rose petal, a dash of nutmeg, and finishing with ashy-dry peat
Taste: A sweet, syrupy, fruity mouthfeel to start, it climbs and coats the whole of your palate. It dips to a huge second wave of aniseed, followed by creamy liquorice notes.
Finish: A very long finish with lingering, alternating ashy vanilla and peaty aromas.

Matured in PX, charred virgin oak and ex-bourbon. Sweet crème brulee and Hobnobs on the nose, balanced by herbaceous flavours of wild mint and delicate aniseed. Warm orange peel and light lemon sweets. On the palate this is still undoubtedly Ardbeg, although in a lighter guise. Tobacco leaf and sweet hay mix with honeyed notes … Continued

The first thing that strikes you about this whisky is its colour: it is so light, a first clue at the delicate nature of the dram. Sweet vanilla up front, with light, fresh apple and runny honey. The palate is elegant, too, even though the peatsmoke begins to intensify. More vanilla throughout is balanced by … Continued

Delicate honey with dried flowers on the nose, all tied up with a very pleasant, nostalic wave of malt extract. A sip takes you on a wee journey past honey, through little peaks of citrus, into a calm valley of malt. Citrus returns at the end to ask about your trip…
