While the mighty festive party season has sadly faded into the distant past, there’s still always a chance of finding a decent reason to celebrate! Here at Luvians we make sure the bubbles keep flowing all year round by maintaining a few very good offers even during the driest months of the year!

Bernard Remy, ‘Carte Blanche’ Non-vintage, RRP £23.99, now £20 – From a small grower-producer based in the village of Allemant in Champagne comes the house cuvee Carte Blanche. Lively with upfront lime and lemony tones, and with a decent bit of weight from 2 years spent aging on the lees, this honeyed champers is very drinkable and offers superb value whatever the occasion!

Moet & Chandon, Non-vintage, was £37.99, now £28 – The most drunk champagne in the world delivers a fresh and elegant style, the bite of green apple and the floral delicacy of citrus blossom with a hint of brioche. Alluring and subtle, it’s a fine example of the grand marque’s more commercial wines.

Veuve Clicquot, Non-vintage, was £41.99, now £35 – The champagne of the Widow (veuve translates as widow, so named for the great Mme Clicquot who made the fortunes of the house during the Napoleonic period) is full of floral character and buoyant richness. Power and grace abound while the finish hints at vanilla and spice. A super wine for a super price!

Jacquart, Blanc de Blancs 2009, was £39.99, now £35 – From the Jacquart co-operative winery comes this rather excellent vintage blanc de blancs, meaning the wine is 100% chardonnay. From their 1800 growers the very best chardonnay is selected and aged for a minimum of 5 years before release. The classic freshness we expect of a blanc de blancs is showing its maturity, developing some lovely hints of almond and baked peach with a buttery pastry base beginning to form. All the while that cleansing citrus zestiness gives the wine elegance and great length.

Paul Bara, 2009, was £44.99, now £35 – A family estate for 170 years, the vineyards for Paul Bara are all classified as grand cru. From these, in only the very best years, come the vintage champagnes of house, marked by their citrus freshness and honeyed floral spice. Elegant and delicate, this zingy vintage wine is a perfect food champagne!

Taittinger, Comte de Champagne 2006, was £100, now £90 – The great blanc de blancs vintage release of House Taittinger, the Comte is the jewel in Taittinger’s portfolio. It is only the released when conditions are perfect in the select grand cru vineyards from where they harvest the finest chardonnay grapes. From these they create what is one of the finest expressions of the blanc de blancs. The 2006 harvest was risked by an intense summer, but fortunately enough cool weather prevailed to ensure good yields, though the variations in temperature had caused uneven ripening among the vines which prolonged harvesting and sorting. 5% of the wine is aged in new oak before the blend is then aged for up to 10 years in Taittinger’s own cellars. A soft tangerine citrus tone on the nose is supported by raisin pastries and candied fruit, with abundant grapefruit on the palate fading into a liquorice spice with the long and elegant finish. This is a wine of superlative quality now, but it will also age very well.

  1. I am looking for a reasonably priced box of champagne (6 bottles) for my son to help him celebrate his 21st birthday. I would like to order and pay for it so he can pick it up on Friday 3rd March. Would this be possible and what would your recommendation be?
