Old Pulteney Vintage Edition, 1989
While it has recently been knocked off the most northerly distillery shelf, newcomer Wolfburn taking the crown for the mainland with its first release this March, Old Pulteney continues to win fame and fortune with its latest release in the vintage series. Winner of the World Whisky Awards 2016 ‘World’s Best Single Malt’ title with their 1989 release, they’ve added yet another accolade to their already impressive collection!
Known for their rather unique looking stills, whose shape the bottles are inspired by, Old Pulteney has continuously garnered awards for the last few years, including the 21 winning Jim Murray’s top spot in 2012 and a brace of medals for all their age statements at the WWA and IWSC awards.
Aged in ex-bourbon American oak casks that previously held heavily peated whisky, the naturally custardy spirit of Old Pulteney is given some heafty peaty structure in this 26 year old whisky. Notes of warm wood smoke and spice mingle with rich honey and vanilla, giving something truly worldclass!
There isn’t much of this wonderful dram going around, so you’ll have to be quick to get a bottle!
